Verranno nominati il 12 aprile i vincitori del World Press Photo Awards 2018, il più importante concorso di fotogiornalismo al mondo, organizzato dall’omonima fondazione olandese dal 1955 e giunto ormai alla 61esima edizione.
Tante le novità di questo World Press Photo Awards 2018. A partire dalla presentazione di una nuova categoria (Ambiente) che documenta l’impatto umano e l’eliminazione della categoria Daily Life. Inoltre, in questa edizione sono stati presentati anche tutti i finalisti per aumentare la visibilità del premio. Per le precedenti edizioni, infatti, venivano annunciati solo i vincitori.

Alla giuria del World Press Photo Awards 2018 sono arrivate 73.044 fotografie scattate da 4.548 fotografi da 125 paesi diversi. Tra tutte le finaliste ci sono anche le sei candidate al World Press Photo of the Year, il premio principale del WPPA (che diventano cinque perché Ivor Prickett partecipa con due fotografie, entrambe sulla battaglia di Mosul) e i tre finalisti per ciascuna delle otto categorie del concorso.
